Subject: Bill for my father’s house (acct 40-11872)

Hello,

I’m the executor for my father, Walter Imrie. I got a bill for $61.40 for 1188 Larkin Rd. Nobody lives there. I live in Spokane and drive over every few weeks. The house is locked and I have the only key.

In August I switched off every breaker in the panel except the one marked SUMP. The fridge is unplugged and propped open.

Could someone look into it? I’d rather not pay for electricity nobody is using.

Carol

CUSTOMER CORRESPONDENCE

From: Carol Imrie
To: L. Vance
Date: 10/13, 21:47
Subject: RE: Your questions about 1188 Larkin

Ms. Vance,

You asked whether the times on your chart meant anything to the family. I’m sorry it took me a few days to answer.

Dad worked the green chain at the mill for thirty-one years and got up at ten to five every day of his life, retired or not. Kettle first. Then the radio, the farm report out of Yakima, while he drank his tea at the window. Then a shower so hot it fogged the hallway. A nap after lunch. TV until quarter to ten, then bed. You could set a clock by him. Mom did.

Your chart is his day. I don’t know what else to tell you.

I’d ask one thing. Please don’t send anyone out there in the early morning. I know how that sounds. He never liked anyone in the house before he’d had his tea, and I’m not sure that has changed.

Carol

Seven days of intervals since 10/22. Every morning load is now exactly double: kettle 0.82, shower 1.76. The 12:30–14:00 nap is unchanged. Evening lighting is unchanged.

The 21:45 drop to baseline now happens at 23:30. Somebody new is staying up later.

Recommendation: Close the exception and stop billing the estate. Schedule no field visits to this premise. I have taken the meter out of the cage and put it in my desk drawer, because the cage is closer to the loading door than I’d like.
